BURLINGTON, ONT. – Today, Bryn Murray, vice-president, Wolseley Industrial, announced the company has developed a new Meridian™ Double Isolation and Bleed (DIB) trunnion ball valve that is now stocked in locations across Canada.
A DIB valve provides a single valve with two seating surfaces, each of which, in the closed position, provides a seal against pressure from a single source, and a means of venting or bleeding the cavity between the seating surfaces, thus fulfilling operational safety requirements.
“DIB trunnion ball valve use has increased significantly in recent years as end-users and pipeline companies look to save money by having one valve perform a job that normally requires two valves,” said Murray. “By developing and stocking our new valves, we’re providing our customers with the most up-to-date technology to help them save money and ensure the operational safety of their projects.”
The new design includes the latest low-temperature Viton seats and seals, and meets the demanding Canadian service conditions that often include extremely low ambient temperatures, hydrocarbons, anti-corrosion chemicals and methanol.
In addition to a standard model, select size ranges of the new DIB valve are also stocked with additional tapped ports. These models allow a valve to be used in either a gas service, where venting of the centre body cavity is normally not required, or for an expansive fluid service where a relief valve must be installed to normally relieve the excessive centre body pressure to the upstream side of the valve. Each flange has a tapped port so that the valve can be installed in either direction, and the relief valve can be connected to either side of the valve depending on a customer’s requirements.
The new DIB valves are IEC 61508 Ed2 SIL 3 certified and will be available in two-inch to 56-inch in ASME classes 150 through 2500 in a variety of body and trim configurations to meet customers’ service requirements.
